After earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Dr. Shannon Westgarth went on to attend the Ontario Veterinary College in order to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
After graduating from OVC, Dr. Westgarth remained at the College to complete a small animal rotating internship.
An interest in advanced practice led Dr. Westgarth to pursue a residency in internal medicine, which she completed in 2015, as well as earning a Doctor of Veterinary Science (DVSc) degree from OVC.
Dr. Westgarth’s area of research included evaluating the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on platelet function in dogs, for potential future use to prevent thromboembolic disease.
Dr. Westgarth joined the team at the VEC in September 2015.
